Mahima Ashaloy

Established on 26th August, 2016, Mahima Ashaloy is a community-based outreach centre located in Sonagachi, Kolkata’s largest red-light district. Dedicated to the holistic care of vulnerable children—both girls and boys aged 3 to 18—Ashaloy serves the sons and daughters of commercial sex workers who face heightened risks of abuse, exploitation, and social stigma. The centre offers informal education, vocational training, medical care, and peer support, creating a nurturing environment that fosters dignity and resilience. What makes Ashaloy unique is its team of locally rooted staff, many of whom grew up in the same community and brings deep empathy, understanding, and non-judgmental support to the children’s journey of healing and growth.
